Honoring the Men in Your Life: Unconditional love.

June 17, 2016
How do we honor and compliment the men if our lives?

I love men. I really do. My friendships with men have brought me the most unconditional love and positive regard I have ever known. Now that I think of it, most of my clients are men.

I often channel fathers, brothers, lovers, and teachers who have passed away. It's clear how deep these connections can go; other worldly, in fact.

There has never been a time in which I have felt qualified to honor these men. The words would get stuck in my throat and all I could say is, "You are an amazing person." Today, it's clear that I am a better person because of these men.

It's important that we honor these men as the individuals they are, while also admitting that as a society, we often challenge their need for this validation.

Maybe we can start with a gift, meal, or card that simply says, "I see you, I thank you, I love you, and you matter to me." Don't you think men want to be seen as good men? And who defines what a good man is anyway?

I can tell a good man by how he makes me feel--safe, loved, cared for, and respected. I know how he treats those in service jobs and I see who he is behind closed doors. He is consistent and he is respected by other men. His children want to spend time with him and he knows how to play. To me, that's a good man.

You may have your own way of recognizing this with the men in your life. Please take time to intentionally share what the "good man" in your life has done to contribute to your well being.

Write it down. Call or text him, but find the words and don't give up until you do. I am still working on this one myself. Each Father's Day, I am reminded to love the men in my life with an open and full heart.

Until next time,
